Polaris Jet-Ski No Spark, Weak Spark or Intermittent Spark

Polaris jet-ski has no spark, weak spark or intermittent spark refers to when an electrical discharge occurs at irregular intervals or lacks the ability to ignite the explosive mixture in the watercraft’s internal combustion engine, and subsequently, the motor fails to start up.

The following information helps to identify the causes of weak spark, no spark or intermittent spark. Check for one or more possible malfunctions:

No spark or weak spark to one cylinder.

  1. Non-resistor spark plugs in use.
  2. Spark plug worn, fouled or damaged.
  3. Poor connection at spark plug cap to high tension lead.
  4. Poor connection at high tension lead to ignition coil.
  5. Damaged or disconnected spark plug cap.
  6. Poor grounds or connections at electrical box.
  7. Electrical connections heavy corroded.
  8. Hall effect sensor (trigger) malfunction.
  9. Poor connections to hall effect sensors (trigger).

No spark, weak spark or intermittent spark on all cylinders.

  1. Non-resistor spark plugs in use.
  2. Spark plug worn, fouled or damaged.
  3. Engine stop switch malfunction (shorted).
  4. Discharged battery, low voltage, crank speed too low.
  5. Disconnected or incorrect wiring.
  6. Terminal board or connections loose or heavy corroded.
  7. Poor grounds or loose connections at electrical box.
  8. Poor ground or loose connections at engine mount plate.
  9. Insufficient connection at secondary coil or primary winding.
  10. Ignition coil malfunction.
  11. Excessive crankshaft runout on magneto end (if applicable).
  12. Faulty trigger or pulse coil, exciter coil (test stator).

It’s possible that other less common reason could cause weak spark, no spark or intermittent spark but these the most probable causes. It’s recommended you also refer to the downloadable factory repair manual for additional information regarding spark issues.
